Piano Recital: Pictures At An Exhibition
Jacques Malchance plays Modest Mussorgsky.
Pictures At An Exhibition (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pictures_at_an_Exhibition to find out more about this suite).
Jacques performs the great russian masterpiece, "Pictures at an Exhibition". A musical work in 10 movements with a recurring theme (Promenade), which Mussorgsky based on ten drawings and watercolours produced by his recently deceased friend, the architect and artist Victor Hartmann. It is a lengthy and fiendishly difficult suite for solo piano, written in 1874, and still very modern and ahead of its time. Published only after the composers death in 1881, the piece has had many re-interpretations and re-arrangements (most famously the orchestration by Ravel; and Emerson, Lake and Palmer's prog rock adaptation), here performed in its entirety and original form.
