Their Spirits - Laura Facey

Their Spirits, an incredible new exhibition by acclaimed Jamaican artist Laura Facey, is now open at the Museum. Facey's work communicates the resilient, transcendent nature of the human spirit when faced with the cruelty of slavery. The centrepiece of this striking exhibition is a cottonwood canoe, almost five metres in length, featuring 1,357 resin figures within it. The figures represent enslaved Africans transported to Jamaica during the slave trade.
