X & Y Festival: The Thespians + Broken Hands + Young Kato + Jim Lockey & The Solemn Sun + Dumb
Liverpool garage rock quartet hailed as "The next massive garage band...the UK's answer to The Strokes...they're just f**-in' cool" by MTV New York and "mesmerising" by Janice Long of BBC Radio 2.
The Thespians tour dates
There's a ragged glory to Broken Hands' music - a rumbling growl and cathartic howl suggesting decades on the road, if not the wagon; half a lifetime of hard days, wild nights and regretful dawns. The fact that the impossibly youthful band are actually only just embarking on their own rock odyssey is hard to fathom, and will probably prove deeply upsetting for the many addled bluesmen forced to symbolically sell their souls to achieve something like it. The roots of R&B run strong in such young blood, but dare to call what they do 'classic' rock and they'll scoff politely: these are contemporary songs, culled from countless sessions down in their borrowed basement rehearsal space. They've just done it in a quiet bit of Kent.
Broken Hands tour dates
Alternative pop 6-piece from Cheltenham and Birmingham, formed in 2011. The boys found TV fame in 2013 with an appearance on Made In Chelsea! Meanwhile their single 'Something Real' and the 'Drink Dance Play' EP have seen support from the likes of XFM, Absolute Radio, and BBC Radio 1, with DJ Zane Lowe hailing them as his "Next Hype".
Young Kato tour dates
These anarcho-anglo storytellers draw from a plethora of influences including alt. country folk and hardcore punk.
The Cheltenham four piece changed their name from Jim Lockey & The Solemn Suns, to simply Solemn Sun in 2014. As well as changing their moniker, their music also changed somewhat, with an edgier and darker sound, there are no acoustic guitars while a heavy electronic element helps separate it even further from their previous work.
