Ladies Day

Ladies Day is not about racing – well bits of it are. Most of it is about friendship and how the friendship between four fish packers enables them to face all the things that life throws at them, both funny and sad.

Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot! It conjures images the world over of glamour, culture and sporting excitement but now four fish packers from Hull have decided they want in on the action. Unfortunately, they haven’t got any tickets but they won’t let a little thing like that stand in their way. Out go the hairnets, overalls and wellies, as the four ditch work, do themselves up to the nines and head off to the races for a drink, a flirt and a flutter. If their luck holds, they could hit the jackpot – and more besides.

Let’s be honest, many of us have often thought about taking time off from our daily routine and experiencing life in style, just for even one day!! Ladies Day offers just that in the case of these 4 Yorkshire women played by Jackie Curran, Nitty Scott, Gwynneth Boorer and Joanna Sait who take the day off work from their dreary jobs in a fish factory, slipping off their hairnets to don their hats and fascinators and head to the races.

Ultimately, although the play is very gritty and funny, the play is about the test of friendship and discovering the truth behind a shining surface.
