Habeas Corpus by Alan Bennett
A play about big buns, tasty tarts and a man who knows how to play his organ. Alan Bennett’s ever-popular first play is set in Brighton during the permissive sixties where lust and longing have overtaken the normally respectable Wicksteed family.
With a procession of larger than life characters such as Canon Throbbing, Felicity Rumpers and Sir Percy Shorter, all performing under the watchful eye of housekeeper Mrs Swabb, it’s easy to understand the layers of meaning behind the play’s title – ‘ you must have the body'.
