Greg Gilbert: Walls

Greg used to be front man of indie band The Delays. He presents an exhibition of drawings in biro and pencil.

His first exhibition was in Southampton (at Harbour Lights) in 2013. The exhibition, titled Requiem for a Village, consisted of miniature biro and pencil drawings inspired by family photos, knitting patterns and postcards from the 1970’s. “Before digital photography, you had to accept whatever you captured” says Greg, “so, in a way, the photos were more honest, especially those fleeting background details. With the biro drawings, I’ve focused on those lost fragments and background scenes and brought them centre stage."

His drawings are often influenced by historical resources depicted in a modern medium (biro). This links really well with The Spring and their ambitions to bring history and heritage to life in vibrant and contemporary ways.
