Friday Jazz: Jay Phelps + Jay Phelps Quartet
Having recently performed as a special guest for Wynton Marsalis before successfully selling out two nights at Ronnie Scott's with his Big Band Jay continues to depart from the current trend of experimental modernism, occasionally evoking the spirit of the 1940?s New York Bird Land. Jay's Quartet is due to support The David Murray Big Band & Macy Gray on the 18th November at the Barbican as part of the London Jazz festival.
Jay Phelps
Jazz trumpeter Jay Phelps is at the forefront of the young and creative generation of jazz musicians in the UK, with an instantly recognizable warm and projecting tone. A Vancouver-born Canadian, Jay was tutored by the city's top jazz and classical trumpeters and distinguished himself early on as the youngest band leader in the Vancouver International Jazz Festival's history.
