The Accrington Pals by Peter Whelan
This lyrical and absorbing play is set a century ago in Accrington during the first two years of the Great War. The 'Pals' are the Accrington men who marched high spiritedly off to war in answer to Lord Kitchener's call-to-arms. Their experiences in the battlefields of Northern France are contrasted with those of the women they leave behind and the play acts as a moving and powerful study of war and its impact on a small community.
