Andy Johnson

The Music Institute's resident pianist Andy Johnson will be returning, after the sell-out success of his concert earlier this year, to present the second of his shows celebrating the words, wit and music of the late Jake Thackray. To quote Andy, "This is none of your note-for-note carbon copy plastic replica shows. No dressing up, certainly no wig and only a Southerner's partial imitation of the voice.

A long-time admirer of Mr Thackray, Andy will be presenting a selection of Jake's writings, anecdotes, songs - some with the original introductions - and maybe a little added explanatory historical stuff for those new to this idiosyncratically English "chansonnier".

Accompanied on original and not-so-original instruments, or none, as the mood takes him, this is very much Andy's personal "Toast to Jake", master of the stark simple character portrait and witty patter song. Jake Thackray has bequeathed a wealth of audience-grabbing songs, and some right good belly laughs, and this "Toast" is Andy's celebration of The Man.

Please note that this is Andy's personal promotion which the folk club is fully supporting by making its resources available to assist promotion and ticket sales. The evening will be run along the lines of our regular club nights.
