The Three Peaks
As one of the greatest mountaineers of all time, Doug Scott CBE made the first British ascent of Everest in 1975 by the unclimbed South West Face. In The Three Peaks, Doug tells of triumph and tragedy on the world's three highest mountains: Everest, K2 and Kangchenjunga, all illustrated by his stunning photography.
The lecture will focus on Doug's passion to climb new routes, where no man has trod before, and where an uncertain outcome is 'part of the deal'.
On K2 Doug experienced the tragedy of leading edge high altitude mountaineering - from the sadness of losing a friend to the mountain, to the frustrations of failure.
Doug's groundbreaking climb of Kangchenjunga, by a new route and without bottled oxygen showed that the highest mountains could be climbed by a small lightweight team.
Doug Scott CBE
Doug has made over forty expeditions to the mountains of Asia and has conquered the highest peaks on all seven continents.
