Whilst all classes work on a drop-in basis, Descarga Dance do encourage you to take the 6 week block in order to develop your learning and get the most out of the course. They also recommend you book in advance where possible as classes get quite busy - partcularly the Rumba, Advanced Salsa Timba and Regueton classes.

Join Yainer Carbonell, of the Internationally acclaimed show Lady Salsa and Cuba's TVC Ballet Nacional, for an intensive intro. course into Cuban Cha cha cha and Son - the quintessential Cuban dance form and the foundation of all salsa across the world.

Son is 100% cuban and the foundation of all salsa across the world. It is a slower, more sensual dance built around the (contra-time) Son Clave rhythm. As with all Descarga courses, we will introduce you to the culture, history and musicality of the dance, encouraging you to develop an understanding of the technical aspects AND the sentiment of the dances; as well as how Son underpins the Songo, Timba and International Salsa genres. We will also touch upon elements of the formal dances Danzon and Contradanza and the popular Changui; as well as how to integrate these moves and style elements into your Salsa. Ideal for developing your understanding of Cuban music and getting to grips with contra-time rhythms in Salsa.

Suitable even for those with no dance experience. No partner needed. We recommend that even if you have touched upon Son in the past or consider yourself a competent Salsa dancer that you take our Stage 1 course. If you’re interested in pursuing our Advanced Timba course, then this is a perfect foundation.
