Based in the Netherlands, the members of the Rubens Quartet are truly international, coming from Holland, Israel and the U.S., with an enviable reputation across Europe and America for their warm sound and ability to communicate with an audience. They continue our Beethoven theme, beginning with the weightless delicacy of an early masterpiece before introducing a recent piece composed for them by their Dutch compatriot Roukens - a beautifully atmospheric evocation of the sea under a vast sky. The wistful melancholy and turbulence of Brahms's A minor quartet brings the concert to a powerful close.
