Milngavie Music Club

Programme:

Bozza - Scherzo
Farkas - Early Hungarian Dances from the 17th Century
Nielsen - Wind Quintet, Op 43
Amy Beach - Pastorale
Mozart - Divertimento in F
Danzi - Wind Quintet No 2 in G minor
Ibert - Trois Pièces Brèves

There is plenty of delightful music for wind quintet, and this programme by a group of excellent young graduates of the Royal Conservatoire has several fine examples. Composers like Ibert, Danzi, Bozza and Farkas were masters at creating effervescent, tuneful music for flute, oboe, clarinet, horn and bassoon. Carl Nielsen, the great Danish composer whose 150th Anniversary falls in 2015, was also drawn to wind music but wrote only one piece for wind quintet. It's a masterpiece, though - inspired by the different personalities of the five players he wrote it for, and full of the joy in nature that gives his music such a spiritual quality.

Note start time. This concert will be preceded by the Annual General Meeting of the club at 7pm.
