Margate Soul Weekends humble beginnings started with Eli Thompson of The Westcoast Bar and Venue and DJ Micky B (East Kent Soul Connection), who on one Margate Carnival Sunday back in August 2002 decided to bring their love of Soul Music to the masses.
Setting up decks outside on the forecourt bar on Fort hill and playing a mix of classic soul motown, disco and rare grooves. was the start of something special for Margate.
Each year the demand for this corner of Margate grew and grew until the Charter Trustees and Mayor at the time Mick Tomlinson presented them with an opportunity to expand on what they were doing and invited them to create a weekends worth of entertainment in tandem with the Carnival. Mick & Eli have never looked back.
The weekend has grown and grown and is now established as one of Margates premium events attracting audiences and families from all over the world.
