It’s the fortieth anniversary of this political comedy and its anti-sectarianism message is as pertinent and powerful as ever.

In Glasgow, on the day of the Orange Walk, staunch protestant, Bill MacWilliam is determined that his son Cameron will join him on the walk. However, prompted by his mother’s recent death, Cameron has started to question his father’s beliefs.

Matters come to a head with the arrival of their staunch Catholic neighbour and her pregnant niece as father is pitted against son and niece against aunt and old prejudices are questioned.

Although written in the 1970’s, MacMillan’s play still resonates today where sectarian chants are still heard on football terraces and nail bombs are still being sent through the post.
