As You Like It / Titus Andronicus
Students from the University of Sunderland present an evening of abridged versions of two of Shakespeare plays.
As You Like It:
Rosalind—joined by her cousin Celia and Touchstone, her court jester—disguises herself as a young man and flees to the Forest of Arden to escape the persecution of her uncle’s court. Clever gender reversals and timely twists of fate propel this spirited tale, and Rosalind discovers that love, while fickle, may lurk around any corner.
Titus Andronicus:
Shakespeare's vicious play of revenge and retribution as a power struggle between Titus Andronicus and Goth Queen Tamora erupts into a vividly gruesome personal war. An amalgam of bleeding chunks of Roman lore with fantasy violence, combining beautiful poetry with extreme human endeavour. The story, set during the decline of the Roman Empire, tells of a fictional Roman general, Titus Andronicus, whose daughter is raped and mutilated through the revenge fuelled commands of the Goth-Roman Queen Tamora. Titus' attempts to seek revenge are rebuffed by the corrupt state until he finally takes justice into his own hands - with astonishingly gruesome and perhaps somewhat tasty results.
