Arriving for a holiday break at "Rookery Nook", a house in Chumpton-on-Sea, Gerald is confronted by Rhoda, a local girl who claims to have been driven from home by her stepfather, the dastardly Putz.

Gerald's relaxing stay and recent marriage look like they could be going up in smoke due to his interfering sister-in-law and the impending arrival of his wife Clara.
