Cambridge Music Festival
Ely Cathedral provides the majestic setting for the closing concert of the Festival: Britten's deeply moving War Requiem. The movements of the Mass for the Dead are interwoven with the poetry of Wilfred Owen written during World War I.
On the title page of the published music, Britten quotes Owen: 'My subject is War, and the pity of War / The Poetry is in the pity ... / All a poet can do today is warn.'
With soloists Amanda Roocroft (soprano), John Mark Ainsley (tenor) and Neal Davies (bass).
Plus the Choir of Girton College and the Choristers and choir of Jesus College.
Part of a ten day festival of concerts and recitals given by world class performers.
