John Bellany was directly influenced by some of the great Scottish poets of the era from Hugh McDiarmid and George Mackay Brown to Sydney Goodsir Smith and Alan Bold. Alan Riach, Professor of Scottish Literature at the University of Glasgow, explores these influences and affinities.
