Christmas is Dedinburgh
The Edinburgh Dungeon axes all things festive this coming December as the city’s scarily fun attraction presents: Christmas is Dedinburgh!
The Dungeon will transport visitors back to the year 1586 when the religious reformer, John Knox had banned Christmas in Scotland. Strictly enforced by the law, Scottish citizens were made to work on Christmas Day and festivities of any kind were firmly forbidden, having been condemned as illegal Catholic decadence.
Visitors must prepare to defend themselves in the Dungeon’s anti -Christmas courtroom as the puritan Judge will be making guests quake in their Christmas stockings. So beware to all those who have been quaffing sherry, wrapping presents or roasting a turkey.
Having endured the puritan punishments dished out by the Judge, there’s a whole Dungeon for visitors to explore. From the terrible torture chamber, the foul pestilence of the plague and Sawney Bean’s carnivorous cannibal cave lair, there’s centuries of history’s horrible bits waiting to be discovered.
