An Illustrated Talk: The Day That Sussex Died
Brighton-based author Ray Kemp will recount how recruits to the Royal Sussex Regiment were installed in camps on the South Downs, overlooking Eastbourne, before being sent over to France. There, in 1916, the Regiment suffered huge losses. Ray researched the period as background for his novel; ‘Harold, the dog who mended broken hearts’ which is dedicated to his grandfathers who served in the war. His book will be on sale at the UGT.
Free entry. Fairtrade coffee, tea and home-made cakes for sale. Coffee-bar open until 4pm for viewing of the ‘Images of World War One’ exhibition.
