About this event
Some Enchanted Evenings celebrates the life and music of one of Broadway's greatest composers of musicals – the amazing, talented Richard Rodgers.
He formed two major partnerships during his lengthy career, the first with the lyricist Lorenz Hart. This resulted in a host of Broadway musicals being written, including 'On Your Toes', 'The Boys From Syracuse', 'Babes In Arms' and 'Pal Joey'”.
When Hart died, Rodgers formed his second major partnership with Oscar Hammerstein II. Together, they created some of the most enduring musicals ever written, including: 'Oklahoma!', 'Carousel', 'South Pacific', 'The King and I', 'Flower Drum Song' and 'The Sound of Music'.
Each of these musicals includes a host of favourite songs that have become classics of the musical repertoire and are beloved by audiences far and wide. This tribute show includes many of these fabulous, well-loved tunes together with others that are not so well-known but deserve to be heard.
Join us as we reminisce over the wonderful melodies composed by Richard Rodgers that allowed audiences world-wide to experience so many enchanted evenings!
Durham Musical Theatre Company (DMTC) was formed in 1908 as the Durham Amateur Operatic Society, its first production being Gilbert and Sullivan's HMS Pinafore in May 1909. In 2008 DMTC celebrated their centenary year and are still going strong with currently over 120 active members performing a wide range of musical productions to sell out audiences at the Gala Theatre, Durham City.
