Free Family Workshops - BBC Your Paintings: A Hidden Story AM (5–11 Yrs)
Free activities designed to encourage families to create together while having fun. Children must be accompanied by an adult willing to create. Please ensure you all wear suitable clothing. Booking required. This event is repeated 2:15pm – 4:15pm
After a decade of not being seen, 'The Dutch Mother' is being re-displayed to mark the national BBC 'Your Paintings' celebrations. Participants will be asked to think about the story of the painting and how it came to be part of the Gallery's collection, using the central figure as inspiration to create their own visual story. They will develop their image through imaginative responses to ideas such as what the mother might be thinking, who could be found just around the corner and whether the painting has a hidden meaning.
