Professional outdoor touring theatre company Rain or Shine are set to delight family audiences once again this summer with their production of Shakespeare’s classic comedy – The Merchant Of Venice.
Antonio, a young man, pledges a pound of his own flesh to a moneylender, Shylock, so a friend can woo his lady-love in style. Antonio learns a hard lesson in loyalty, humanity, friendship and prejudice when the revenge-seeking Shylock comes to collect and he is unable to pay. From the merchants, who trade and barter on the Rialto, to a young Venetian’s choice of a metal casket in Belmont, which could win him the hand of an heiress, Shakespeare weaves a web of romantic intrigue, cunning duplicity and comical foolery.
