The 450th Anniversary Of William Shakespeare
The CRSO celebrates the life and works of William Shakespeare, with music by a wide variety of European composers.
Shakespeare's tale of tragic love, Romeo and Juliet, has inspired many musical works and, therefore, the CRSO will perform the 2nd suite by Berlioz. The CRSO will also perform Weber's Oberon overture, inspired by the character in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, who was the consort to Titania, the Queen of the Fairies.
In this celebration of Shakespeare, the Orchestra couldn't ignore British composers. The CRSO will perform Elgar's depiction of Falstaff, the vain and boastful character who appears in Henry IV Parts one and two and The Merry Wives of Windsor. With such a variety of composers this will undoubtedly be a splendid way to remember the world's most famous playwright.
