So often new music gets a bad press. Not so the two Graham Fitkin pieces featured in this final concert.
His 2010 score Mindset, composed for the Royal Ballet, was described variously by the critics as “wondrous”, “irresistible”, and “vivid”. They were equally enthusiastic about the Cello Concerto premiered at last year’s Proms. “A first-class addition to the repertoire” reported Musical America “ ... immensely subtle, unshowy and perfectly judged”.
There will be a pre-concert talk at 6:15pm with Graham Fitkin in conversation with Peter Reynolds.
