Al Lewis

Al Lewis is pleased to announce that he will be returning to the delightful St John’s Church in Canton, Cardiff for another ‘Al Lewis & Friends’ Christmas show on Saturday 13th December.

Last year’s inaugural Christmas show was a huge success with guests Brigyn, Greta Isaac and Gildas as well as mulled wine and home-made mince pies! The overwhelmingly positive response has resulted in a return visit which we are hoping to establish as a permanent feature in Cardiff’s cultural calendar.

Al Lewis is originally from North Wales and his sound is reminiscent of the classic singer-songwriters of the '70s delivered with a modern twist. His debut English language album 'In the Wake' was nominated for the inaugural Welsh Music Prize.

Along with his band, Al has released several Welsh Language albums each spending multiple weeks on the Welsh Language Album Charts. Al has also scooped the award for 'Best Male Artist' two years in a row (2011/12) at the BBC Radio Cymru Awards.

The past 18 months has been a busy time for Al and has included opening for Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra on their UK tour last year, culminating in a sold-out performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Following that in December last year Al wrote and released his Christmas single based upon the Dylan Thomas short story, ‘A Child’s Christmas in Wales’. The single was the first bilingual song containing Welsh lyrics to make it on to the BBC Radio 2 playlist and was described by Gary Barlow as a ‘great song’. This year Al has released a new Welsh language studio album “Heulwen o Hiraeth” and has teamed up with American singer Alva Leigh to form a new recording and performing duo Lewis & Leigh the results of which will be released in 2015.
