After winning Jazz FM's "Best New Instrumentalist" award, Lee completed the BMus (Hons) jazz course at Birmingham Conservatoire in 2007; studying with Partisans' guitarist Phil Robson. He has recorded alongside Larry Coryell, Jean Toussaint, Dennis Rollins, Ric Sanders and Chris Dagley amongst others.
