In April 2014 Director Les Veale and a group of local actors made their first attempt at the Teignmouth One Act Play Festival with ‘Peppered’.

BATS supported this work under their New Writing Scheme and were delighted that the radio play won ‘Best Technical’ and ‘Best Supporting Actor’ (Colin Baker) prizes.

‘Peppered’ is an urban fairytale with a message, spanning a day in the life of teenagers who come face to face with their future, shortly after the release of the Beatles’s Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band, in the summer of 1967.

With a tenuous link to each track on the album, the story touches on common issues facing teenagers today, such as drugs, relationships, and what their future may hold, while giving an amusing adult perspective on some of the changes experienced over a generation.

There will be a performance of a stage version of this play, with a Director’s Discussion afterwards.
