Chinese New Year 2013
Wai Yee Hong will be celebrating one of the most important festivals in the Chinese calendar. Come down to the store in Bristol to see the live firecracker and traditional lion dance performances. Everyone is welcome to join the festivities.
The firecrackers will be lit at 11:15am to scare away the evil spirits for the new year. This will be followed by the kung fu skills of the Yi Quin lion dance troupe, who will be bringing luck and prosperity in the form of a traditional Chinese Lion dance.
2013 is the Year of the Snake, which is the sixth sign in the Chinese zodiac. Snakes are private individuals who are known for their intelligence and humanitarianism. They hate to fail which means they have good fortune, and can always find funds when they need them. If you are aged 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84 or 96 this year, you are more likely than not to be a Chinese Snake!
Allison Chow says: "Chinese New Year is the most important festival in the Chinese calendar; when families get together to see out the old year and celebrate the new. We love organising this event because it's a lovely way to share our culture with everyone."
