Desh Project: Digital Exhibition Launch
Asian Arts Agency is delighted to announce the launch of their Desh Project digital exhibition with a day of free talks, performances and family-friendly activities at M Shed.
Desh, meaning 'Homeland/Motherland' in Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu, is an intergenerational creative heritage project exploring and celebrating South Asian culture in Bristol and beyond, funded by Heritage Lottery Fund and created and produced by Asian Arts Agency.
The launch event is the result of a series of workshops that began in January 2014. Young British Asians from Bristol and the surrounding areas participated in a series of sessions speaking with Asian elders to collect their oral histories and developing skills in animation, music and filmmaking.
On Saturday 1st November, in addition to being able to watch the digital stories in the Bristol Life and Bristol People galleries throughout the day, M Shed visitors will be able to listen to a series of talks from individuals and experts working in the cultural sector who specialise in heritage, Oral History and film making. They will also have the chance to take part in puppet making and traditional Indian storytelling workshops, and enjoy music and dance performances from a selection of Bristol-based Asian artists.
All the events are free and open to all ages.
