Based on one hundred and fifty letters and interviews with original Land Girls, along with songs from the period, Lilies on the Land is a revealing, funny and wonderfully moving portrait of four women who sign up to join the Women’s Land Army during World War II. The idealistic views some girls hold before joining the Land Army are soon met by the reality of early hours, rough hands, mice in work clothes and backbreaking work. Despite this, each one says that they would do it again. This is a lovely assembly of stories and memories from the period, which leaves you with a warm admiration for these women, who set out to do their best for the war effort.
