Walking is the original way to tour. The word ‘Troubadour’ comes from the old french word used to describe the travelling poets and minstrels who wondered around Northern Italy and Southern France in the 12th Century. Fast forward to 2014 and for most musical outfits, touring is about a dirty old vans or public transport.

“Humans have a certain capacity for walking, we were a nomadic animal for many thousands of years and our bodies are really designed for it.” explains Will Varley, the 27 year old folk singer from Deal who this spring will travel 450 miles along the south coast of England on foot, playing gigs along the way. A few years ago he waked about a hundred miles from London to his hometown of Deal, Kent in a similar endeavor. “This one is a lot bigger. I think it’ll be a bit nicer though, being close to the sea the whole way. People are amazed when you arrive in their town and say you’ve walked there. It brings a sense of magic to your show.”

Varley will be joined by friend and fellow songwriter Nick Marks who is performing the support slots at the shows. The pair begin their trek on April 29th and are set to arrive in Deal for the final show on 29th of May.
