The world-renowned Brodsky Quartet presents an extraordinary programme that spans the breadth of the repertoire, with two succinct yet powerful works by Beethoven and Mendelssohn that deal with the pain of loss. Tanaka wrote her mesmerising piece as homage to Beethoven in response to the sorrow of war in Kosovo. Schubert's famous single work, intended as the first movement to a quartet he never completed, moves from serenity to Sturm-und-Drang ferocity in the blink of an eye, and Puccini's glorious memorial for the death of his benefactor has all the emotion of his greatest operas packed into just a few minutes.
There will be a pre-concert talk with Charles Wiffen at 6:30pm.
