Schumann and his world.

Mozart Rondo in A minor K511
Chopin Scherzo No 4 Op 54
Chopin Polonaise-Fantaisie Op 61
Schumann Davidsbundlertanze Op 6

Since becoming the Piano Winner of BBC Young Musician 2006, Cordelia Williams has continued to build an international career as one of the outstanding pianists of her generation. Schumann takes centre-stage in this programme and his Davidsbundlertanze was both an engagement gift to Clara Wieck and a statement of artistic activism. Schumann became part of an artistic group in the 1830s which had the aim of fighting against anything backward-looking or obsolete in the arts, and the characters depicted in these eighteen dances were imaginary members of this convention.

'Her playing has a warmth and finely judged flexibility that are immediately attractive.' BBC Music Magazine.

There will be a pre-concert talk at 6:30pm.

Supported by Wiltshire Music Centre Young Artist Fund and The Fenton Arts Trust.
