1914 Local News

The end of November 1914. The "Great" War is raging over three continents. Colonial troops are adjusting to new climates as Kitchener's new army trains in camps all over the UK. The first trenches are about to be dug and the threat of zeppelin raids on home soil looms on the horizon. Here in the West Midlands, demands on industry and farming, the Aliens Restrictions Act and the drive for recruitment are changing people's lives irrevocably while authorities encourage people to carry on with "Business as Usual".

To mark the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War, "1914 Local News" looks beyond tales of glory and tragedy to uncover the day to day lives of those who lived through it. A talented cast combine physical theatre, verbatim accounts and vibrant story telling to perform a different show every day.

Based upon local news reports, letters, journals, photographs and reminiscences of the same date one hundred years ago.
