The Wake

The Wake: Jane Packman Company

During the middle two weeks of The Woods, the company will stage The Wake, an uplifting performance event in celebration of the passing year.

Audiences will join a party of up to 30 in the domestic / bucolic setting of the installation, where a team of performers and musicians will take them on a ride through memories, events and moments that formed the last year.

Audiences can expect an entertaining communal experience with music, eulogies, the chance to make something, and perhaps even a wee drop of whiskey.

Director Jane Packman comments: “The gallery at mac Birmingham is a fantastic space for our installation The Woods, so it will be great to have the chance to see people interacting with it again. I'm really excited to be working with the team to create The Wake, a new, celebratory performance, which we'll host inside the installation. We're playing with live music and sound, and creating a eulogy for the year just ending. It should be a life affirming way to kick off the festive season, and lots of fun to be a part of.”
