London Sinfonietta

London Sinfonietta – the UK’s leading contemporary music ensemble – has produced a matinee concert of Steve Reich’s work for Key Stage 3 and 4 students.

The programme includes the Edexcel GCSE set work Electric Counterpoint, which has become one of the defining pieces of modern music; 2 × 5, Reich’s first exploration of rock instrumentation with electric guitars, bass guitar, keyboard; and drum set and Clapping Music, a piece of music that needs no instruments beyond the human body.

The concert will be accompanied by an Online Teaching Resource exploring the compositional techniques of minimalism.

This is a rare opportunity to hear a live performance by the pioneer of minimalist music and one of the greatest living composers.
