Fadgies

Step into the world of ‘the Fadgies’ in Belfast.

‘Fadgies’ were native Irish speakers from Omeath who moved to Belfast in the 19th Century working as fish and fruit sellers. They settled in Smithfield and created Belfast’s first urban Gaeltacht, later moving to the Falls area. Many of their descendants settled in what is now the Gaeltacht Quarter. Come in for a cupán tae and let them tell you a story or two.
