Bath Mozartfest 2014 - In Pale Battalions
On the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War, how should we remember this 'War to end all Wars'? As a triumph of our national spirit, or a human catastrophe? Samuel West has chosen poems from the men who were there, the women who were left behind, and those who looked back on it afterwards. Samuel West is an acclaimed actor and director, and a member of the Wilfred Owen Association.
The title In Pale Battalions is from a sonnet by Charles Hamilton Sorley recovered from his kit after his death at the battle of Loos on 13th October 1915.
Part of a nine-day celebration of the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
and his contemporaries along with composers from the Romantic era and the
20th century.
