Fertile Ground

This year The Bowes Museum has collaborated with Fertile Ground to launch ‘On the Darkened Wing’, a contemporary dance performance in response to Birds of Paradise, the Museum’s latest fashion exhibition initiated by MoMu-Fashion Museum Antwerp.

Birds of Paradise is a tribute to the elegance and refinement of plumes and feathers used in the fashion industry. The exhibition addresses aspects such as refinement, luxury, freedom, modernism, femininity, lightness, but also themes of lost innocence and dark romance. Fertile Ground will present a suggestive and original dance work in response to the exhibition’s themes wearing costumes designed by BA (Hons) Costume Interpretation and Design students from Cleveland College of Art and Design.

Fertile Ground is the North East’s first professional graduate dance Company nurturing, inspiring and challenging a new generation of dance artists. It is led by Artistic Director Dora Frankel. On the Darkened Wing dancers include Holly Bellamy, Kayleigh Fisk, Alicia Meehan and Alys North.
