VESP #07 Seeing the Unseen – Secrets In The Soil

Phytoliths, silica skeletons of cells that allow the identification of plants from 1000 years ago, providing vital information about our history, are to be transformed into 3-D printed sculptures, light projections and festive decorations.

DIG will also play host to a themed soundscape, created through York St Johns’ Converge project, and there will be plenty of opportunities to get hands-on with activities for all ages.

In addition, there will be an opportunity to meet the expert, Archaeobotanist and Researcher Hayley McParland, from the University of York at 4:00pm before the event to learn more about this fascinating process.
