Winner of the London Comedy Festival 2001 and star of Eve Ensler's hit show, The Vagina Monologues. Shazia is lifting the veil on the world of Muslim comedy.
She is well-known for her appearances on BBC's Have I Got News For You, Beautiful People, Muslim Driving School, and The Now Show and Last Comic Standing on NBC.
A practising Muslim, Shazia is known for her deadpan delivery on her observations of her religious world. She works internationally, recently completing a six month tour of England and the United States and has appeared on BBC’s Have I Got News For You, NBC’s Last Comic Standing and CBS’s 60 Minutes.
The only female Muslim stand-up comedian, she has come a long way since starting out in Birmingham in 2000 working as a science teacher and driving up and down the country for a booking for as little as £10.
'Wonderfully life enhancing... Her laconic one-liners represent something quite unique in modern comedy' (The Guardian).
'No one can resist - the room erupts' (Elle Magazine).
'Clever, ground-breaking and very funny' (Evening Standard)
'Had the place in stitches' (Independent)
'The Lenny Bruce of female stand-up' (Metro).
Shazia Mirza tour dates
'Barbara Nice - ordinary housewife extraodinaire - has given up the domestic bliss of Tupperware and Poundstretcher shops for the unpredictability of the comedy circuit (her husband thinks she's at the bingo). No audience is too rowdy for her to handle - she's already raised five teenagers. She believes in bargains, Take a Break magazine, getting the most from life. Oh and Stage-diving! This well observed comedy character is so likeable that she draws even the most cynical of audiences and takes them along for a ride. 'A hybrid between Victoria Wood and Mrs Merton' - The Times.
Mrs Barbara Nice (Janice Connolly) tour dates
Stand-up comedian and resident MC of MY Comedy in London, Birmingham and Coventry as well as for the Queens of Comedy, London. Maureen has also worked as a contributor on BBC Radio and Sky News.
'Maureen Younger is more than compere, more than host, with a natural gift of the gab she's quick off the mark and doesn't miss a trick!' (http://www.gingerbeer.co.uk)
'If you have been lucky enough to see her perform you will be fully aware of just how funny and infectious this woman is.' (Time Out)
'... whose punch lines also hit the mark in German' (Cologne Rundschau)
'Engaging and funny' (Three Weeks).
