ACM Gospel Choir

The ACM Gospel Choir is returning to the Pavilion following a very successful workshop and concert performance last June with pupils from schools in the Beaminster area and All Saints School Weymouth.

The ACM Gospel Choir was formed in 2005 at the Academy of Contemporary Music by vocal coach Mark De-Lisser.

The choir rose to fame when they reached the semi-finals of BBC One’s Last Choir Standing series in 2008. Dubbed the youngest, hippest choir and the "Stars" of the show they have gone on to tour with Russell Watson, perform with Beverley Knight, JLS, Diversity, Alexandra Burke, record with Robbie Williams, Scouting For Girls, Olly Murs and sung as special guests for HRH The Queen on numerous occasions.

The choir won the Urban Music Awards for Best Gospel Act 2014 and set a New World Record for the highest Carol Concert on a Plane.

The choir bring a fresh new slant to Gospel standards but are as equally at home with contemporary pop covers. Adding their own harmonic arrangements to bring the songs new life.

As musical director, Mark De-Lisser regularly rearranges songs to give them a modern, pop feel, while the energy of the young choir have more in common with a rock group than a more traditional choir.

“The choir reflects the personalities of everyone involved,” says De-Lisser. “They’re all are very current and cool, so the choir is current and cool too. Their energy and vibe comes from the fact that they are all musicians having the time of their lives, living their dreams. They just all love to sing and have a great time.”

With this youthful energy and amazing vocal talent the choir are in huge demand as a performing choir, session choir, workshop choir and more besides.

The choir released their self titled debut album of contemporary songs in 2008 being described as ‘new gospel’, followed by a Christmas album in the same year. 2013 saw the choir return to the studio to record an album entitled The Spirituals. A journey that has been turned into a documentary which was screened on August 23rd 2013.
