Love That Louie
In 1955, Richard Berry wrote the song that would become the greatest rock anthem of all time, the ultimate party song, Louie Louie. More than half a century later, on what would have been his 78th birthday, we will celebrate this tune in all its forms at The Haggerston pub in East London.
On April 11th, International Louie Louie Day, a stellar cast of local DJs will pay tribute to a song which originally drew on Latin, Calypso, R&B and Doo-wop influences and went on to inspire garage rockers like no other. Louie Louie is arguably the most recorded song of all time. It holds a unique place in the cultural lexicon of music aficionados and record collectors worldwide.
The night's vinyl spinners will include DJs from internet radio stations NTS and Hoxton FM, band members from MFC Chicken and The Brute Chorus, plus promoters from the Dirty Water Club, Buzzsaw Joint and Heavy Sugar. Louie Louie themed projections and drink specials will run all night.
