Rise Of The Idiots Comedy Club: Rob Deering, Ian Smith, Gemma Whelan, Gerry Howell, Ivo Graham
Please note that the artists appearing may be subject to change.
Rob Deering performs stand-up comedy with music, using a guitar, a loop pedal and his voice to create impressive rock and pop soundscapes – and do jokes, of course.
Along with being one of the most in-demand headliners on the UK circuit, he’s toured nationally and performed solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe many times since starting out in comedy in the year 2000. His late-night, live-music pop quiz Beat This is a festival institution.
Winner of the Amused Moose Award 2001.
'With his easy charm, chessy singing voice, razor-sharp wit and clownish physicality Rob has quickly established himself as a firm favourite on the comedy circuit around Britain' (Pontardawe Arts Centre0
'Truly wonderful stand-up' (The Sunday Times).
'As sharp and versatile as a Swiss Army Knife' (The Independent).
'Bruisingly hilarious... brilliant musical comedian' (Time Out).

One of the new crop of emerging acts, Ian Smith employs a careful, unhurried delivery that conceals a nicely pointed attitude with a sack full of neat gags to match.
'Fantastically funny' (The Times)
'Star of the future' (Time Out).
'... delightfully offbeat writing, a mastery of phrasing and summons up some fine comic images. A talent, for sure' (http://www.chortle.co.uk).
Winner of the 'People's Champion Award' at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2017 with his show 'Snowflake'.

Gemma is a comedian and actress from London. She often appears as character Chastity Butterworth, a prim, buttoned-down, well-spoken, schoolma'amish spinster from another era. She is also known for playing Yara Greyjoy in the HBO fantasy-drama series Game of Thrones.
'A female Tim Vine with a persona akin to emotionally frigid posh boy comic Will Smith... most impressive' (Chortle)
Funny Women Variety Act Award 2010.
Gemma Whelan tour dates
His unique style has garnered him both critical acclaim and award success – he's winner of the Reading Comedy Festival Best Act Award and Newbury Comedy Festival Best Act Award. As well as a Hackney Empire New Act Finalist and Gong Show Winner at the Comedy Store.
Gerry Howell tour dates
Apologetic Eton and Oxford alumnus, Ivo started stand-up in 2009 at the age of 18, and 8 months later became the youngest ever winner of the prestigious So You Think You’re Funny award for new acts at the Edinburgh Fringe.
Now a regular fixture in the clubs and theatres of the UK circuit, his gauche charm and crafty, self-aware wit has proved a hit with audiences of all ages, and led to appearances on multiple TV and radio shows including Live At The Apollo, Mock The Week, Comedy Central At The Comedy Store, As Yet Untitled, Live From the BBC and Fighting Talk.
