Kate Williams + Bobby Wellins
At 70 Bobby Wellins is a jazz survivor with a distinctive sound and improvising style. The pianist and composer Kate Williams, who has now released five CDs to critical acclaim, displays hints of Thelonious Monk and Bill Evans in her playing.
Her subtle harmonies and sudden shifts of mood and texture provide a natural complement to Wellins’ unadorned tenor sax tones as they play both standards and originals.

Bobby Wellins has been a significant force in British Jazz since the mid 50s. His playing on Stan Tracey's Under Milk Wood album in 1965 was a major contribution to its seminal status (voted all-time favourite British jazz album in a 'Jazz UK’ readers poll). A keeper of the be-bop flame for many years, his playing now is as adventurous and exploratory as ever.
