In 2003 John Murry, a Tupelo Mississippi native, moved to California. Things didn’t exactly turn out as planned for him; his battle with prescription drug addiction ended in heroin overdose and a near-death experience in a San Francisco hotel room. John drew on these experiences and the ghosts of his past to create a stunning debut album ‘The Graceless Age’ that became an instant classic, included amongst the 10 best records of 2012 in both Mojo and Uncut magazines. The lyrically potent songs told harsh truths of love, life and loss while expressing a sense of salvation and reconciliation.
Already intense on record, with his wild eyes, jerking limbs and raging electric guitar interludes, Murry also makes for a unique and almost frightening live experience.
Since the critical adoration of his debut, he took up Irish residency in Kilkenny and recorded a new album 'A Short History of Decay' for a 2017 release, accompanied by a heart-tugging documentary film of the same name.
