XFM's Winter Wonderland: Bloc Party + Maximo Park + Everything Everything + Delphic + Spector + Findlay
Xfm's Winter Wonderland with Rocksmith returns this December.
Every year, Xfm puts on two huge live shows in London and Manchester, featuring some of the very best artists in the world of music today, plus a unique selection of exciting new acts for you to see before they become MASSIVE!
This event takes place at O2 Apollo Manchester, which has achieved Silver Status for disabled access from Attitude Is Everything.
Reared on a diet of pop culture and good music, Bloc Party met through the small ads of the music press to create a band who went on to make the headlines. After a short hiatus in 2013, Kele Okereke returned refreshed in 2015 with a new line-up: original guitarist Russell Lissack joined by new recruits Justin Harris (bass) and Louise Bartle (drums)
Ask them their influences, and they say they've been influenced by it all. Live, Bloc Party '...rip through new classics...like they've written them 20 minutes before the gig - the ferocity and adrenaline of youth shines through the angular rhythms and layers of effects.' (bbc.co.uk). They also play regular DJ slots up and down the country.
Bloc Party tour dates
Indie-Rock band from Newcastle, fronted by the ever charming Paul Smith, whose tightly-wound songs are biting, contemporary takes on the familiar feelings of being trapped in a small town and desperately needing to escape. Their tunes vibrate with contained energy, and the anger more than occasionally spills out into faster, harder pop-rock. With three UK top 10 albums, two top 20 albums, along with eight UK top 40 singles, the boys continue to 'apply some pressure' to their sound and success.
Maximo Park tour dates
This Manchester outfit blend falsetto vocals with synths, guitars and discordant pop hooks. Quirky singles like 'Photoshop Handsome' have seen comparisons to XTC, Wild Beasts and Django Django, but the band also have a sound all of their own.
Their 2011 debut release 'Man Alive' was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and they have received three nominations for an Ivor Novello award. After an initial level of cult success, they broke through with second album 'Arc' which reached no.5 on the UK album charts and 2015's 'Get To Heaven' reaching no.7.
Everything Everything tour dates
One of the most exciting bands to come out of Manchester in recent years, Delphic's sound straddles genres, flowing between the stadium britpop of Oasis and the electro-pop of New Order, with a taste of Klaxons - 'electronic music played with a full band setup', as they describe it. Driving, tumultuous and emotive, this is a new chapter in Manchester music.
Delphic tour dates
"They've been dubbed 'East London's answer to The Strokes' or 'Dalston's Kaiser Chiefs', Spector's melancholic widescreen pop owes as much to the likes of Roxy Music and Pulp and has more than a touch of the New Romantic about it." - BBC Sound Of 2012
