Richard II: Lincoln School Of Performing Arts
From the moment that Henry Bolingbroke took the crown from the anointed Richard, the English Monarchy suffered years of disaster and torment. Richard II is a play which is a reflection on kingship and power in the medieval English Court.
The rituals of kingship and order are played out, although these actions on Richard’s part are largely symbolic and take the form of reflection. His opponent Henry is more practical, a soldier marching towards an unenviable destiny, the role of king will be one that will weigh heavily upon him in the manner of its taking. Nonetheless, once in power he finds the problems he has are no different to those of his predecessor.
